What We Believe
To help you get to know us better,
here are a few things that we hold true.
Inspired Word of God
- The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God. As such, it is the definitive source of truth, showing us both how to live and what to believe.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NASB)
“for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2 Peter 1:21, NASB)
One True God
- There is one true God. He has revealed Himself in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, called the Trinity. He has always existed, and will always exist.
“Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!” (Deuteronomy 6:4, NASB)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,” (Matthew 28:19, NASB)
“and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”” (Luke 3:22, NASB)
Jesus is God
- Jesus is God. He is just as much God as the Father and the Holy Spirit. There is salvation from sin only in His name.
“”Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”” (Matthew 1:23, NASB)
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,” (1 Corinthians 15:3, NASB)
“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21, NASB)
“And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,” (Hebrews 1:3, NASB)
Spiritual Death
- Although God created us perfectly, our ancestors, Adam and Eve, sinned, causing their spiritual and physical death. They have passed this spiritual death (separation from God) on to each one of us.
“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27, NASB)
“Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.” (Romans 5:14, NASB)
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23, NASB)
Jesus Is Our Only Salvation
- Our only hope of eternal salvation is by believing in, and trusting in, the sacrifice that Jesus made for us by dying on the cross, then rising from the dead.
“Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”” (John 3:3, NASB)
“for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” (Romans 10:13, NASB)
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;” (Ephesians 2:8, NASB)
“He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:5-7, NASB)
Water Baptism
- Jesus commanded us to be baptized in water. It is a symbol of our spiritual dying and rising again in and through Jesus.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,” (Matthew 28:19, NASB)
“He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.” (Mark 16:16, NASB)
“Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4, NASB)
Holy Spirit Baptism
- There is a gift that Jesus promised to us, called the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Jesus also referred to it as a baptism in or with fire. This provides the power to live a godly life, utilizing the gifts of the Spirit in His ministry. It is a separate experience that comes after salvation. The scriptural evidence of this infilling is referred to as “speaking in tongues.”
“”And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”” (Luke 24:49, NASB)
“but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, NASB)
“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God.” (Acts 10:44-46a, NASB)
Sanctification
- Christians are called to live a life of godliness, separated from the sins of the world. We are in the world, but not of the world. We are spiritually set apart from the world and set apart to God. This is called “sanctification.”
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:1-2, NASB)
“Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14, NASB)
“As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”” (1 Peter 1:14-16, NASB)
